East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center (ECIRMAC), also known as the Refugee Center

From the available slots, choose 2 hours during the week that you would like to work (2 consecutive hours or 2 one hour time slots). Then choose a second option in case your first choice is not available. The Refugee Center can only accommodate 1 volunteer at a time so you must select a time(s) that is not already occupied on the schedule. Booker T. Washington Elementary School (BTW)

Please look over the schedule for BTW. From the available slots, choose 2 hours during the week that you would like to work (2 consecutive hours or 2 one hour time slots). Then choose a second option in case your first choice is not available. Please consider this schedule preliminary. You may find that the volunteer coordinator at BTW can lead you toward a classroom or particular activity that can utilize your particular talents. Or you may find out that a particular classroom has a special need at certain hours. Your flexibility may result in a more satisfying experience for you. You can sign up to work at the after school program from 3:00 to 5:00. This takes place at BTW and our students work as tutors who develop close relationshbips with BTW students, helping with homework, reading, and enrichment activities that emphasize family strengths, stories, and digital media. Unit 4's calendar does not always coincide with UIUC's. If school is not in session during your regularly scheduled time, you are expected to make up that missed time on other days.

Check the school disctrict's calendar and plan accordingly.
Check for weather-related information and other emergencies.

Working at BTW requires that you fill out a criminal background check form. Once your request has been received at spanish-illinois@uiuc.edu, you will receive an e-mail with the form attached. If you have had a criminal background check done before through a school not located in Champaign , you still need to fill out this form and send it in. If you have had a background check within the year and have not broken service with the school they do not need another one, but a student who has skipped a year or semester of volunteer work needs another background check.The background check process takes a while, and your work will be delayed.
