This course will examine the role of the short story in the evolution of 20C. Latin American literary history. Through the careful analysis of literary, critical and theoretical texts, we will explore the relationship between the short story as a genre and the development of Latin American literary expression. We will analyze major collections of short stories and consider how they have contributed to and/or shaped the trajectory of Latin American writing. We will also discuss significant anthologies and evaluate their role in (re)defining literary history.
